Let's talk
Believe in yourself

Everyone has a way of looking at the world. For some, it’s joyous and merry and for others, it’s dark and grey. Besides, it is not possible to be merry all the time although keeping a positive attitude helps in adverse situations.

Our mind harnesses a wonderful capacity to get things done. Encouraging oneself with positive thinking and affirmations help in building up one’s self-esteem and resilience. While constant criticism may bring one’s self-worth down.

What is positive thinking?

Positive thinking means the ability to think positively despite facing a few setbacks or going through adverse situations. It includes believing in the “law of attraction”, that what you think resonates with what will happen to you.
Thinking positively does not mean that you would drop realism, it means knowing the reality but choosing to look at the situation from a positive perspective.

Toxic positivity-
A lot of people talk about toxic positivity which means that being positive can be harmful to a person mental well-being. A person cannot be positive all the time and I agree. Some situations are emotionally too draining for us.

So, why not look at it this way, we can’t think positively all the time and in the same way, we cannot be thinking negatively all the time too. You may find that in certain situation keeping a positive mindset helps especially during some tough situations.

Science says:

Positive self-talk improves an individual’s psychological state and may help stabilize his/her emotions. While other studies suggest that people who have a positive perception may more likely handle a threatening situation in a less defensive and resistant way.

Additionally there’s a theory in psychology called self-affirmation theory which states that people who have an internal perception of viewing themselves in a positive limelight fair better than those who don’t. People who practice self-affirmation has a better sense of worthiness and other benefits.

Positive thinking includes:

  • Acknowledging your situations and trying to think from a positive perspective.
  • Taking control of your thoughts and actions
  • Not letting your negative emotions getting the better of you
  • Furthermore by choosing your words carefully and thinking before speaking
  • Accept the things as they are and also that you cannot change everything but believe that they will be okay someday.

  • My body is good and I accept it
  • I am exactly how I was intended to be
  • Today I made a mistake and I acknowledge it
  • I will be a better version of myself
  • I’m proud of the work I did today

  • I am good at what I do. I don’t need to “COMPARE” myself with others
  • My work and life have a purpose
  • I can come out of this tough situation
  • I believe in myself

My thoughts-

I’m sure you must have heard this a lot of times. Moreover, you may have practised this once or twice but I wish I could say that was enough. It doesn’t work that way. It is essential to give them time to work and keep repeating them, let’s say a couple of times a day.

Thus, one could use these magic mantras right before giving an important presentation or before you give your college interview. Furthermore, you can go in front of your mirror and simply say you are awesome when some not so nice people make you feel otherwise.

The best part is these mantras don’t cost a penny!
Then why don’t try it yourself and see whether positive thinking is your cup of tea or not?

Stay safe and healthy:)
