Causes of depression

There are more than one cause of depression. It can be triggered by certain events in life, such as divorce or loss of a loved one. However, some people are living well, and some become depressed. Since the susceptibility to depression is familiar, some times, it may be due to genetic factors also. If one of the identical twins has major depression, there is an approximately 50% chance that the other twin will develop symptoms of depression at some point in their lives. Also, children, parents, and siblings with major depression are two to three times more likely to have this type of depression than those without major depression.

The symptoms of depression vary from person to person. For example, 19-year-old Joan has complained to her doctor that she is not tired but has difficulty working and socializing. The mother reported that her sleep time was usually 7 to 8 hours, but now it is 10 to 11 hours. Joan was complaining of headaches and other pain and digestive symptoms. Surprisingly, these physical symptoms are common in patients with depression.

What can I do as a member of the family?

One of the essential things we can do to avoid the Impacts of Depression on Family is to give support for people with depression, and create a supportive environment. It’s not surprising that you want the symptoms of depression to go away quickly, but you have to understand that it goes on at your own pace. Don’t let yourself or your patient be disappointed. Also, avoid putting pressure on the other person to “enhance” them.

Keep in mind that initial treatment is not always the best solution to depression, and the process of trial and error can be time consuming. Please encourage the patient. Make a note of any progress you make. If your symptoms do not change or worsen after a few weeks, you may want to revisit your doctor or seek a second opinion from another doctor.

Some people may have to undergo more than one treatment or see more than one psychiatrist or psychosomatic physician until they find a doctor that works best for them and the best medicine.

Disappointment as a symptom of depression can prevent you from seeing a doctor or taking medication. Please help me to follow the doctor’s instructions.

Finally, be sensitive to things. Treat the patient as usual as much as possible, but avoid acting as if nothing was wrong. If you don’t deny depression, the patient will give up.
