It is natural for a person to feel anxious or dread from time to time. Still, suppose the feeling of anxiety is repeated frequently without any real reason, to the point that it obstructs the ordinary course of daily life. In that case, this person likely suffers from an anxiety disorder. This disorder causes excessive, unrealistic anxiety and a sense of fear, and it exceeds what might be considered a normal reaction to a specific situation. Types of Anxiety:

Anxiety is of many different types, which include:

Agoraphobia: This is the fear of squares and being in public places.

Health Anxiety: It is a type of anxiety that results from a medical problem and a specific health condition.

Generalized anxiety disorder: Excessive anxiety caused by any activity or involvement in any events, even routine.

Panic disorder: It is a series of anxiety and fear that reaches its maximum levels within a few minutes. A person with this type of anxiety may feel shortness of breath, rapid breathing, and chest pain.

Selective mutism: The failure of children to speak in specific situations, such as being at school.

Separation anxiety: It is a childhood disorder that is characterized by fear and anxiety of being separated from parents.

Social phobia: Fear of engaging in social events, feelings of shame and low self-confidence.

Symptoms of anxiety

The symptoms of anxiety differ from one case to another, whether in terms of the different types or severity of the symptoms with the most mental disorders, it is not entirely clear what causes an anxiety disorder.

Researchers believe that natural chemicals in the brain, called neurotransmitters, such as Serotonin and norepinephrine (or: Norepinephrine / Noradrenaline), affect these disorders. In sum, it can be assumed that this problem has a variety of causes, including the following cases:

  • Panic disorder
  • Dulled anxiety disorder
  • Phobic disorder
  • Stress disorder
  • Infection with some diseases such as diabetes and heart disease.

The data indicate that the percentage of women diagnosed with a generalized anxiety disorder is higher than that of men.

Risk Factors of Anxiety:

These following factors may increase your risk of developing an anxiety disorder:


Children who have endured abuse or trauma or have witnessed traumatic events are more likely to develop an anxiety disorder at some point in their lives. And anxiety disorders can affect adults who have experienced another traumatic event.

Stress due to illness.

Having a serious health condition or disease can cause intense anxiety about things like treatment and the future.

Accumulation of stress.

Excessive anxiety may result from the occurrence of a significant event or the collection of smaller life situations that cause stress, such as the death of a family member, or a feeling of pressure due to work or the constant feeling of anxiety due to financial conditions.

Personal. Certain types of personality are more likely to develop anxiety disorders than others.

Other mental health disorders.

  • People with mental health disorders, such as depression, often develop an anxiety disorder as well.
  • Drugs or alcoholic beverages. Using, misusing, or withdrawing from drugs or alcohol can cause or worsen an anxiety disorder.
  • Feeling overly anxious, negatively affecting your work, relationships, or any other aspect of your life.
  • Disturbed feelings of fear, tension, or anxiety and difficulty controlling it
  • Feeling depressed, having trouble with alcohol or drug use, or having other mental health problems linked to anxiety.
  • A belief that anxiety is linked to a physical health problem

You have suicidal thoughts or behaviors – if this is the case, you should seek emergency treatment immediately.

Anxiety Counselling relieves symptoms and treats depression. In counselling, counsellors discuss your experiences, relationships, events, moods, and perceptions that are important to treat the client.
